Hello all. So, I don't usually post as Kendra the teacher but it's definitely time. I have taught at Music and Arts for 4 1/2 years and today is my last day there. I am leaving to teach on my own. It's time to move on and start something new. I am grateful to the 100 students who have walked through my door in that time. I will miss the ones I am leaving behind but am proud to have been part of their lives. I am also incredibly grateful to the ones continuing the journey with me.
Although today is the last day, in my mind last night was my farewell. For the month of July I ran a chamber group for some of my students who are going into 8th grade next year. I have been leading an adult group for 2 years now and I had been waiting for the day my kids would be ready.
Finally I had at least 5 who went to the same school and were at similar advanced playing levels. So we worked on 5 pieces. 3 of which were beyond their years. They rose greatly to the challenge and by the end were interacting as a unit. They listened in and shaped phrases and took breaths together and watched each other for cues. It was so fun to watch them grow not just as individuals, but as a group.
Last night was their concert and they played very well and seemed to have as much fun as I did. I am so proud of all their hard work and accomplishments. I am incredibly proud to be their teacher. So glad they and their parents gave me this opportunity.
Chamber music is great for kids. Get them in it as soon as possible. I have had many of them playing duets together for years now but I'm sorry I waited so long to have them play in a bigger group. I look forward to the arranging and rehearsals to come!
