I got back last night from 5 days in Pittsburgh, PA where I got to play 3 shows with the No Name Players. The show was curated by my good friend bassist/composer Ryan McMasters. It included a little mini Hartt reunion with violinists Kathleen Andrews McMasters and Katie Cousins as well. I also got to meet some great local musicians, actors, and dancers!
It might be a little strange to "review" a show one takes part in but it was such a great show that I must share it. There were works by Ryan, Frederic Rzewski, and Evan Ziporyn. It included 7 musicians, 2 actors, and 2 dance companies. The show was well thought out and had a great flow.
The first piece was an electronic composition by Ryan entitled "the writing on the wall." It featured Texture contemporary ballet co, they were stunning and amazing to watch.
The concerts were a ton of fun, the cast was made up of wonderfully talented and great people. The week was artistically rewarding and the full of wonderful collaborations that will most likely continue.
And a random aside, knowing that Banglewood is starting today! We went to the Carnegie museum and I had a nice nostalgic moment as I walked in and saw the huge Sol LeWitt installation. Hope you're all having fun, can't wait to come visit!
